Marcus Michelson

Marcus started playing the violin at the age of 5, when he began lessons with Nicole Masters (SSO). He soon after joined the Rising Stars (Sydney Conservatorium of Music pre college program) where his main teacher was Prof. Ole Bohn. At age 9 he auditioned successfully to participate in the Aspen Music Festival (AMFS) and attended the 2 month long program for 6 consecutive years.

Marcus has a passion for chamber music, and at the AMFS he worked with members of the Tacaks, Pacifica and the American string quartets. His orchestral experience began in 2011 with the Sydney Youth Orchestra. Marcus was then the Flagship Orchestra’s youngest concertmaster from 2018 to 2020. He has also participated in Australian Youth Orchestra’s programs from 2017 to 2022 and played with the Australian World Orchestra (AWO) as the chosen academy player for 2021.

Marcus has received awards including the Australia’s Bach Society award and the jury prize at the Gisborne International Music Competition. He has studied under Prof. Paul Kantor (Julliard/Dorothy DeLay) and has had lessons with Miriam Fried (professor at NEC) and Andrew Haveron (concertmaster of SSO). Marcus currently learns in Sydney with Kasia Hans Rosenbaum and Nicole Masters (SSO).
